Can I Start Again Please

... desiccates and dissects childhood trauma via an exploration of Wittgenstein and semantics. It won the Total Theatre award for Innovation, Experimentation and Playing with Form at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe, was included in the British Council showcase in the same year and was subsequently performed over 300 times throughout 2015/16. It is the intersectional form of parallel narratives in the parallel languages of British Sign Language and English which attends to the power and failings of language, sparring across the heard and the unheard, to investigate the telling and hiding of truths.

It was written by Sue MacLaine following a period of research & development informed by Jonathan Burrows as outside eye and the contribution of Deaf performer Nadia Nadarajah. It would not be the work it is without her.

The play-text is published by Oberon Books (now Bloomsbury)

It was performed by Sue MacLaine and Nadia Nadarajah.

..This gracefully intelligent production faces up to so much...you emerge wondering how a staging so kind can be so devastating..
